The HAA Girl Who Knows Clothes Post: The Evolution of Activewear

The days of wearing old jogging pants and an oversized sweater you borrowed from your boyfriend or older brother is now long and gone. Active wear has definitely been reinvented and now going to the gym or going to the grocery store has become a fashion show. Many designers like Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors have stepped up to the plate to help demolish the dowdy woman.

It is important for a woman to feel great even when she sweats. Spring 2009 has shown many amazing, well-crafted garments for the fitness fashionista. Many different layering of fabrics and details like bows, zippers and color combinations have stepped up the game for the active individual.

Some of my favorites in this year’s collection

Adidas for Stella McCartney. If you ever get the opportunity to see this collection at the Adidas store DO IT! Stella really knows how to make a woman feel sexy….even when she sweats. From the cute tennis dresses, to the leggings, to the cute detailing of the jackets, this collection has upped the game onto looking fabulous in active wear.

Detailed accented with a bow tie to accentuate the bust as well have an empire silhouette for quick movements.

I love this two piece tennis outfit cause of the sweet ballerina skirt with the well constructed top that can be used for running and yoga as well.

The detailing of Stella McCartney is what makes her stand out as a designer then the rest. The gathering of the fabrics and the color choices she uses, the runner’s jackets can be used to go on a date and be confident and comfortable at the same time.

The leggings in this collection are not just your normal solid color lycra pant.

Lululemon

Yes, yoga took off, but the fashion is moving more so then the upward facing dog position. Founded in 1998, Vancouver, British Columbia, Lululemon changed the game of sportswear fashion for yoga, running and cycling. More importantly, Lululemon uses only the most comfortable fabrics so that you can be lounging and looking good at the same time.

The New Gym Bag

The New Gym Bag

Instead of the backpack, the Safeway shopping bag or your oversized GUESS purse, Lululemon has designed some of the simplest yet sweet gym bags that can dub as an overnight bag or as a carry on your next carry  flight.  It’s the Goldilocks purse, not too big, not too small, JUST right.

Well tailored, stylish and extremely comfortable. These pants you wear once and you wish every pant you owned felt like these.  Found in various styles with a variety of color combinations, you can coordinate your active wear with your runners or your flip flops. Every single person should own a pair of Lululemon pants, trust me, you will thank me later.

  1. I Agree! Plus, if you have cute workout outfits, it gives you more motivation to get in the gym and show them off.

  2. I agree that women shouldn’t show up to the gym looking a mess, but some of this gear is a bit extreme. I don’t think I’d wear it to work out. I highly doubt that I’d take very seriously a woman running on the treadmill beside me while wearing a blouse (with a high-standing collar & a bow no less) & hot shorts. A trip to the grocery store? Definitely! Trying to lose that last 5-10 pounds? Not really. I don’t think sweat, target heart rate & couture belong in the same sentence. JMO.
